It's possible to fall in love with Valentine's Day, even if you're watching your waistline. Valentine's Day is a holiday that centers around fancy dinners, boxes of rich candy and decadent desserts. By the time it's all said and done, you won't even be able to wedge yourself into that sexy lingerie. When you're struggling to lose weight, it's a holiday that quickly turns from V day to D day, especially when you feel like everything is off limits. Instead of feeling blue on Valentine's Day, see red and keep your diet intact. Whether you're giving or receiving, opt for flowers, perfume, jewelry or a nice card. As tempting as those Godiva chocolates may be, you'll pay the price later on. If you do feel the need to indulge in a sweet gesture, keep it to a minimum. Enjoy a piece of chocolate or two and bring the remainder of those gourmet goodies into work to share with everybody.
Make sure that you take those candy calories into account when planning your menu for the day. When it's time for a romantic dinner, make smart choices. Limit the number of alcoholic beverages you consume. Skip the tiramisu or cheesecake. How about some strawberries dipped in dark chocolate, which happens to be loaded with antioxidants? Remember, even though they're healthful, you should still enjoy these treats in moderation. Even if you do fall off the wagon, pick yourself back up on February 15. Return to your healthy eating program and revert to your fitness regimen.
