Spaghetti & Meatballs
Have a ball for dinner -- a meatball, that is. Homemade sauce is the key to preparing this traditional Italian dish. These amazing meatballs taste even better the day after.
Ingredients
For 6 people
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoon(s) vegetable or olive oil
- 4 cup(s) tomato puree (3-10.75 oz. cans)
- 2 cans tomato paste (6 oz. cans)
- 12 floz water
- 1/4 cup(s) grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 teaspoon(s) dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon(s) salt
- 3 teaspoon(s) sugar
- 16 ounce(s) ground beef; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 4 ounce(s) ground pork; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 3/4 cup(s) finely crushed saltines; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 4 eggs, beaten; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 2 garlic cloves, minced; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 3 tablespoon(s) grated Parmesan cheese; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 1 teaspoon(s) dried oregano; for Spaghetti Meatballs
- 12 ounce(s) Hot cooked spaghetti (2 oz. per serving), use as much as desired
Directions
Saute onion and garlic in oil until tender. Add the next seven ingredients; mix well. Simmer, uncovered, for 1-1/2 hours. Meanwhile, combine beef, pork and cracker crumbs in a large bowl. Add the eggs, garlic, Parmesan cheese and oregano; mix well. Shape into 1-1/2-in. balls; brown in a skillet, turning once. Add to sauce; simmer, uncovered 1-1/2 hours longer. Prepare spaghetti according to package directions and serve over spaghetti.
