There's never a dull moment in the entertainment world, and 2013 is no exception. From public meltdowns to shocking arrests to fake girlfriends, the stars know how to keep their fans guessing. Here's a look at 10 of the most shocking celebrity scandals so far in 2013. 

1. Amanda Bynes' “Ugly” Public Meltdown 

Former child star Amanda Bynes has done her best to vanquish all traces of her squeaky-clean tween image. In the past year, Bynes has become a tabloid fixture owing to a series of bizarre behaviors, including appearing in court in a disheveled blond wig. The actress also caused a stir by making frequent racist and crude comments about other celebrities via her Twitter account.{relatedarticles}Her favorite buzzword? Ugly – everybody who crosses her is apparently “ugly.” Some of her social media victims include Jenny McCarthy, Drake and Courtney Love. In May, Bynes was charged with marijuana possession and an attempt to tamper with evidence, as well as reckless endangerment after supposedly tossing a bong out the window of her luxury apartment. She has since been evicted. 


2. Justin Bieber's Reckless Year 

Justin Bieber has had a busy 2013 with a number of scandals making the headlines. In April, Swedish police found pot on the teen singer's tour bus, though no charges were filed in connection with the bust. The international incident was not the first time the Biebs has been connected to the controlled substance: Tabloids have printed photos of Bieber smoking marijuana with friends.{relatedarticles}Another hot topic is the teen heartthrob's reported reckless driving habits. Neighbors are allegedly up in arms about Bieber tearing through local streets in his white Ferrari. In June, Bieber struck a photographer who refused to get out of the road as the singer drove away from an L.A. comedy club. It sounds like Bieber could be on the fast track to trouble. 


3. Reese Witherspoon's Disorderly Conduct Arrest 

Sweet-as-pie actress Reese Witherspoon apparently isn't above throwing around her star power in the face of authority. When Witherspoon's husband, Jim Toth, was pulled over in April in Atlanta for suspected DUI, the actress was caught on film mouthing off to the responding officer. “Do you know my name?”{relatedarticles}That's what Witherspoon wanted to know as police questioned her husband about his alcohol consumption. When Witherspoon refused to get back into the couple's car, she was arrested for disorderly conduct. She pled no contest and has since publicly apologized for her less-than-gracious behavior.   


4. The Manti Te'o Girlfriend Fakeout 

It was the greatest relationship that never was. Sports fans were shocked when it was revealed in January that the heartbreaking story of Notre Dame football player Manti Te'o's brave late girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, was nothing but a hoax.{relatedarticles}Deadspin reporters exposed the fraud in which a man named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo duped Te'o into thinking he was carrying on a romantic online relationship with a non-existent woman. The elaborate ruse included stories of Lennay surviving a car accident only to later die of leukemia. Alas, fans were devastated to learn Lennay was only a figment of someone's imagination.   


5. “Teen Mom” Farrah Abraham's DUI and Sex Tape 

Former MTV “Teen Mom” and Mother of the Year candidate Farrah Abraham has taken a play right out of the Kim Kardashian handbook. The young reality star got people talking this spring when she released a supposedly secret sex tape co-starring notorious adult film star James Deen.{relatedarticles}The so-called boudoir video isn't the only questionable move on Abraham's resume. The young mother also was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop in March in Nebraska. She pled guilty in hopes of getting probation instead of jail time.    


6. Paris Jackson's Suicide Attempt 

Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, was taken to an L.A. hospital in early June after an apparent suicide attempt. Family sources confirmed that the 15-year-old daughter of the King of Pop had cut her wrist and received medical care at a local hospital.{relatedarticles}The family has released few details about the incident, but Jackson herself expressed the difficultly of losing a parent in addition to weathering the typical teenage storms. 


7. Lance Armstrong's Long-Awaited Confession to Doping 

In January, bicycling legend Lance Armstrong acknowledged he used performance-enhancing substances in pursuit of his seven Tour de France victories.  The most shocking part of his confession to Oprah Winfrey wasn't so much the drugs themselves, but that Armstrong finally admitted to using them.{relatedarticles}Until this year, Armstrong had vehemently denied the doping allegations and often deflected the negative attention by putting the blame on others. In his televised interview with Winfrey, Armstrong admitted to using blood transfusions and testosterone, among other illegal aids. 


8. Lil Wayne's Flag Faux Pas 

Controversial rapper Lil Wayne raised hackles when a video clip surfaced that showed him stepping repeatedly on the American flag. The brief clip featured Weezy giving a performance of his new song, “God Bless Amerika,” in a New Orleans street.{relatedarticles}A large American flag that was initially held up behind the rapper was seen falling to the ground early in the song. Wayne was then filmed walking back and forth atop the fallen flag. Many have called the rapper's actions unpatriotic. For his part, Wayne says the flag stomp was completely unintentional.

Cory Monteith shocked fans of Glee when this spring he admitted himself to rehab for substance abuse. The star – best known for his portrayal of jock-turned-gleek Finn Hudson on Fox's hit show – had spoken previously about his past struggles with drugs and alcohol.{relatedarticles}In a 2011 interview, Monteith confessed to dropping out of high school at age 16 and stealing cash from a family member at age 19. Monteith's co-star and girlfriend Lea Michele has stood by the actor throughout the ordeal.  


10. Dan Marino's Secret Love Child Revealed 

Football legend Dan Marino this January admitted to having an extramarital affair that resulted in the birth of a daughter in 2005. The former Miami Dolphins' quarterback – who has enjoyed a successful post-football career as a TV sports analyst – is said to have fathered the love child with Donna Savattere, a CBS Sports employee.{relatedarticles}Marino was married at the time of the affair and has said in statements that the revelation is a private matter and would not affect his long-time marriage.
