Pant legs can be a real drag, especially when you're trying to perfect the proper length. Go too long and you look like you're drowning in cloth. On the flip side, there's no bigger fashion faux paus than donning those highwaters so short you look as if you're preparing for a flood. Somewhere therein lies the happy medium. So how long is too long and how short is too short? One rule of thumb is that pants should just nearly touch the ground when you stand up. We say nearly because if they're touching the ground you not only run the risk of tripping, but over time you'll do some serious wear and tear to the hem of your pants. Pants should cover your shoes but allow for your toes to show. One fashion expert suggests the hemline fall between the top of the heel and the mid heel of the shoe. You have more wiggle room if your pants are made out of flowy material such as silk. It's important to keep in mind that one size -- or length in this case -- does not fit all.
