There are countless classes - from spinning to step to Pilates - available at no additional cost. You have access to every machine under the sun, some for which you likely wouldn't have the resources or the space for. And of course, you can consult with the experts if you have questions about your workout routine. So there's no denying the benefits of a gym membership. But if you're short on cash - and time - you can skip the gym and still find a way to get in great shape. Admit it - an at-home workout can also add the element of convenience. Traveling to the gym forces you to allot even more time to your workout. Then you roam the gym waiting your turn for the machines to free up. So in reality memberships don't always have their privileges. Why not invest in your own workout equipment?


If you're pressed for cash, check eBay or Craigslist to get second-hand equipment at a discounted price. Make a one-time investment in a treadmill or Stairmaster. Pick up a set of handheld weights - these will be instrumental to your at-home strength training regimen. Purchase workout DVDs at stores, garage sales or anywhere else you can get your hands on. Or save money by checking them out from the library. Simplify your workout by having everything you need right in the comfort of your own home. Set aside an area or room where you can get your fitness groove on every day. Believe it or not, it's possible to yield effective results without a gym membership. Get creative and get moving.
