Stock Up on Single-Serving Drinks

When you're on the go and thirsty, it's always convenient to grab a soda or an energy drink. However, most of the time you're sucking down an abundance of caffeine and sugar. A 32-ounce soda from McDonald's has 310 calories and 86 grams of sugar. Surprisingly, a 12-ounce serving of Gatorade Performance series isn't much better with 310 calories and 42 grams of sugar. If you think those energy drinks are any better, guess again. A 23-ounce bottle of Jolt Energy has a whopping 94 grams of sugar. An 8-ounce can of Red Bull has 27 grams of sugar. It goes without saying that those Mountain Dews will do you wrong - a 12-ounce can packs a sugary punch with 47 grams of the sweet stuff. Even the seemingly unobtrusive Dr. Pepper has a whopping 41 grams of sugar for 12 ounces.

One look at these numbers, and it's clear to see why water and other low-calorie, low-sugar options are your best bet when you're looking to quench your thirst. If you want something with more of a kick than plain old H2O, why not pick up a box of single-serving, low-calorie drinks? Crystal Light and those other knockoffs now sell individual packets that can be added to a bottle of water. Simply pour in the packet, shake well and you have yourself a healthy, refreshing beverage with no calories and no sugar. Whether you're craving peach tea, raspberry ice, lemonade or orange, there's something to suit your tastes. Satisfy yourself without the soda. Your body will thank you.
