Johnny Depp tends to be a fashion pioneer, and the bling he sports is no exception. Depp and soon-to-be-ex Amber Heard had a fairly traditional engagement, aside from one little accessory -- Depp's own engagement ring. In fact, the ring he sported on that finger was very similar to the sparkler he gave Heard – a round diamond in the center of smaller diamonds on the sides. His explanation was, "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle." In other words, he confirmed their engagement. So will the so-called "man-gagement ring"catch on? Surprisingly, it already has. A jewelry chain that specializes in engagement rings surveyed 800 people about whether they'd want to give/receive a ring to a man. A surprising 67 percent of men were "open" to wearing an engagement ring.
And as more and more same-sex couples get married, many gay men are proposing with rings, and there's an uptick in jewelers who cater specifically to same-sex weddings. It's not just a trend for gay men, however. For some couples who choose the woman's ring, it seems only fair to get a little bling for the guy as well. Other celebrities who have enjoyed the trend are Jennifer Hudson, who bought her fiance David Otungo a custom Neil Lane five-carat sparkler! Singer Michael Buble said that his Latina bride gave him an engagement ring, explaining, "The boy also wears the engagement ring. That's what she tells me anyway." Why not splurge on a ring for him as well? Many couples are finding that it's another special memory to add to the excitement of planning the rest of your life together.
