Healthy Cooking: Add Flavor, Not Fat

Sometimes, the simplest thing that you can do to improve your overall diet is simply to adopt a more healthy cooking method. Rather than relying on fast food restaurants or prepared foods, you will find that by taking advantage of a healthy cooking method you will be able to get the entire flavor that you are looking for along with considerable benefits to your overall health.

The first healthy cooking method that you are going to want to be sure that you are taking advantage of includes grilling meats, poultry and fish. During those times of the year when the weather is great, you will find that there's nothing like taking meats that are already lower in fat and cooking them outdoors on the grill; during the rest of the year or on rainy days, you will find that indoor grills have come a long way. By grilling your meats, you will find that you are able to reduce the fat of the meat and that you're able to use seasonings to add flavor.

Rather than using marinades that use preservatives and artificial flavorings to spice up your meal, it is possible to use fresh herbs to create your own, more natural marinades. Similarly, if you are looking for healthy cooking methods that keep all of the flavor without adding fat or salt, you will be able to take advantage of ready made dry seasoning rubs or to follow recipes that will enable you to make rubs of your own.

Adding herbs to fresh vegetables is also a great way to change flavors without taking away from the nutrition value. Of course, when it comes to a healthy cooking method for vegetables, you are going to want to be sure that you are looking into steaming your vegetables long enough to brighten the color and enhance the flavor without over cooking them. Similarly, when you are steaming your vegetables, you will find that you are able to add flavor by adding lemon juice or other aromatic liquids into the mix to infuse flavor during the steaming process.

If you are uncertain about steaming your vegetables or you are simply looking for alternatives, you'll find that sauteeing your vegetables or even by roasting them you can retain the health benefits and to keep things simple. Keep in mind, healthy cooking methods are not about adding difficulty to the process of preparing your foods; instead, healthy cooking methods are all about making full flavored meals that are more nutritious for you and your family.

Foods do not need to be fired in order to have flavor; heavy oils and preservative laden seasonings do not to be used in order to give foods the flavors that you want them to have. Healthy cooking methods make it possible for you to keep all of the nutritional value (in some cases, to enhance it by not overcooking fresh vegetables or to reduce the amount of fat on meats) of your food and to take advantage of a diet that is heavy on flavor and variety.
