7. Lance Armstrong's Long-Awaited Confession to Doping 

In January, bicycling legend Lance Armstrong acknowledged he used performance-enhancing substances in pursuit of his seven Tour de France victories.  The most shocking part of his confession to Oprah Winfrey wasn't so much the drugs themselves, but that Armstrong finally admitted to using them.

Until this year, Armstrong had vehemently denied the doping allegations and often deflected the negative attention by putting the blame on others. In his televised interview with Winfrey, Armstrong admitted to using blood transfusions and testosterone, among other illegal aids.
