Shrugs

A long-sleeved shrug is great to throw over a short-sleeved, three-quarter or long-sleeved shirt if you're feeling a bit cold. Some shrugs taper just below the bust (similar to a bolero) and are great over a fitted top. This fall - think long. Most shrugs (and other cover ups for that matter) flow down to the hips. Since shrugs are usually tailored, they lend a slimming touch to your ensemble. Some shrugs may be loose-fitting and flowing, and these add just a touch of elegance to your look. Look for colors like black, blue or red, and consider pairing with a low-neck, tunic tank top that reaches to your upper thighs. Throw on a pair of skinny jeans, and you've got a winning look. More importantly, since many shrugs are knit from fabrics like wool, you'll also be warm.

This long, tapered shrug is knit from wool, modal, nylon and our very favorite, cashmere. With long sleeves and an open front, this fitted number lays just on the hips, and is longer than shrugs of previous years.

Scarves

These babies are always a staple of the winter months, although each year they come in slightly different variety. Instead of necklaces this winter, you'll see more scarves worn, even indoors. And why shouldn't we accessorize with scarves? Just because the jacket comes off, doesn't mean scarves should, too. When scarf shopping, consider that ruffles are in, and lend to a romantic look, as are wide scarves, which create a look (and feeling) of warmth. A popular fabric for scarves this season is silk, and like with other trends, think length. In addition, the scarf has spawned a few new fall creations, such as the scarf vest, which may or may not have a hood and pockets, and wraps that fall down to your waist.
